mcbw: Talk & Collective Discussion
When Ceramics Become Part of Life
Description
About the workshop: This is an open, informal talk about creativity, community, and what it means to start making things with your hands — together. We begin with a small collective performance: everyone adds a piece of clay to a shared vase. Bit by bit a shape grows — reflecting everyone in the room, from beginners to experienced ceramicists. It’s playful and shows how creativity can connect people. Afterward, we move into a relaxed conversation about becoming a ceramicist. There’s no single path — some have formal training, others start through curiosity or simply the desire to make something. We’ll explore common questions along the way: how to join a ceramics community, deal with fear of mistakes, and find your own style. We’ll also touch on practical matters — next steps after discovering clay, how much technical knowledge is needed, what to do with your pieces, and balancing ceramics with everyday life. On the personal side, we’ll reflect on doubts, impostor syndrome, noticing growth, and whether working with clay can be meditative. This isn’t a lecture or masterclass — it’s an open conversation. You can listen, reflect, ask questions, and join in. Participants: all ceramicists, from beginners to professionals Matthias A. architect, studio teacher Silke V. graphic designer, studio teacher Sebastian K. ceramist, studio friend Marina G. product manager, studio coworker Kinsey C. futurist, studio coworker Yury K. programmer, studio coworker Ev F. kamishovka ceramics studio owner Duration and timing: approx. 2 hours. Number of Participants: 30 participants. This workshop is held as part of mcbw.
